Candidate (SC, Gov) Nikki Haley's Christianity Under Attack by Christians?

GOP gubernatorial candidate Nikki Haley is being attacked by some Christians because they doubt her conversion from Sikhism to Christianity. What are they thinking? Haley converted to Christianity in 1997, and is married to a Methodist. Her opponent is Congressman Gresham Barrett, who has made her conversion an issue in his campaign, questioning her conversion and Christianity. That other Christians have piled on is appalling. More on the despicable Barrett later.

That her Faith is being brought into question by other Christians gives political and cultural ammo to Secularists that love to point out the intolerance of our Faith. We have to ask, what's the point of this, other than being intolerant and using this for political gain? She's converted, goes to church, and these Christians and Barrett are absolutely wrong making this a campaign issue. Only her political and economic views should be in play. (I would not say the same of a Muslim, who's first and foremost obligation is to Islam, not their country.)

Haley:
“(Religion) was something (husband Michael and I) talked about a lot.” He was brought up Methodist, Christian, and I was brought up Sikh, and so you talk about the similarities and you talk about the differences, and even more so when you’re getting married and you’re going to have kids, it becomes a very real thing on how you want to raise your kids.”

Haley has had two postings on her web site regarding her Christianity, one before, the other after Barrett made this an issue.
First statement:
“My faith in Christ has a profound impact on my daily life and I look to Him for guidance with every decision I make. God has blessed my family in so many ways and my faith in the Lord gives me great strength on a daily basis. Being a Christian is not about words, but about living for Christ every day.”

Second statement:
"I believe in the power and grace of Almighty God. I know, and have truly experienced, that with Him all things are possible. I have looked to Him for leadership throughout my career and will continue to do so as governor."

All three of these quotes show she has a mature wise view of the part Faith plays in her life, both personally and professionally.

On the other hand we have Barrett. He's called Haley a "raghead". He has not only not apologized, but continues to push this in his campaign. Haley's parents are Sikhs, and sometimes she attends their worship with them out of respect. Barrett and some Christians say this calls her conversion into question. Does "Honor your father and mother" ring a bell with these characters? Do we really want the governor of a state that uses that pejorative, shows that intolerance? He calls himself a Christian, yet apparently rejects the 'great commission' to openly and with love accept all converts.

This knucklehead also thinks he's a more better Christian or something because he was "born into the Faith". We, not exactly. Being "born again" is the correct measure.

Haley renounced her Sikh faith, converted to Christianity, married a Christian man, is raising Christian kids, and is a member of a church.

Barrett attacks her Christianity and conversion as false (how does he know?) and uses it for political gain. We're disgusted.

Christians are to accept into the Faith all people. Apparently Barrett missed that lesson, and should look to the mote in his own eye. Shame on him and the Christians that are doing this to Haley.
