Libertine or Liberty?

I had written earlier about Man and God and liberty. I noted that through my evolution from Marxist to Conservative Christian I had noticed something. The idea of liberty and freedom comes through scripture. The Magna Carta, Mayflower Compact, Declaration of Independence, and Constitution all draw from Scripture. (For those interested, the best analysis of this is M. Stanton Evans’ The Theme is Freedom.) The Leftist or Statist view of freedom is being a slave to the material; Marx, Engels, Lenin and Rousseau were all atheists, anti-Christian and anti-Semitic. Our society has been following and applying their ideology since the early 20th century and look where we are.

As we watch the decaying of America, it’s noticeable the liberty is being confused with libertine. I remember listening to a Los Angeles talk show host that called himself a libertarian, but he was no more that a libertine. It was all about what brings on pleasure. If it feels good, do it, as the 60’s slogan said.

We have a legal system the puts the rights of criminals above the safety of citizens. We have government and citizens thinking have the debt monkey on our backs, personally and nationally, is a good thing. Sex above relationships. Disposable marriages. We all know the litany of things dragging down doing right, good and moral things.

Augustine:  For of a perverse will, was a lust made; and a lust served, became custom; and custom not resisted, became necessity. (Confessions 8.5)  Or as the Doobie Brothers put it, “What were once vices are now virtues”.

True liberty, true freedom, comes from having the discipline to live a scriptural base life. God directs us through scripture to a right kind of life. Christ died the way he did to give us the opportunity to wipe the slate clean of our bad thoughts and behaviors. That’s the hard way. The anti-scriptural is the easy way, and doesn’t lead to freedom.

Romans: "…because the creation itself also will be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God."

Glad We Live in a Post Racial Society

This is the newly appointed Chicago police chief, Garry McCarthy, appointed by the new racist mayor Rahm Emanuel. Emanuel has just left the Obama administration to run for mayor, and it was the typical corrupt Democrat machine campaign. The audience is the same racist Leftist America hating group that attends the Obama's church led by Jeremiah Wright, the Obama was a member of for twenty years.

“Let’s see if we can make a connection here. Slavery. Segregation. Black codes. Jim Crow. What, what did they all have in common? Anybody getting scared? Government sponsored racism.”

“Now I want you to connect one more dot on that chain of the African American history in this country, and tell me if I’m crazy: Federal gun laws that facilitate the flow of illegal firearms, into our urban centers across this country, that are killing our black and brown children”.

Then he finds a way to blame Sarah Palin? He asks the stupid stupid stupid question of where was Palin when he was at a crime scene? Why wasn't she there. Well, duh.

"Civil" Leftists Advocate Murdering Law Enforcement Officials

Leftist in Arizona hack into personal info and release it with the intent of getting these law enforcement official murdered. This kind of activity can even be found  going back to the 1970's when the Democrats (Church Committee) released the names of covert overseas CIA agents. The Left released the name of religious and political leaders that opposed California's gay marriage act. The Left regularly goes to the homes of judges and politicians that rule and vote against their ideology. The Left only cares about the enforcement of their ideology, not about people.

Election 2012: Stop McCain II Before It Starts

Same political minds, loosers
You know a Republican presidential candidate is a RINO when the Jurassic Press says the guy is great, just what the Republican Party needs. Jon Huntsman is an accommodationist to the Left, like McCain, Lugar, the Bush's, and all the rest. Huntsman announced at the Statue of Liberty where Reagan did, and invoked Reagan several times. Problem is, Reagan was a conservative. Huntsman is a Liberal.

His strategy going into the primaries is not to appeal to the base of the Republican Party, but to independents and disaffected Dems. That strategy alone speaks volumes. As Mark Levin's analysis below shows, Huntsman even uses the same words as McCain, talking about civility, respect of the opposition, getting along, taking the high road. Really? That got McCain and the Republican Party where?

Just before Huntsman announced, his campaign manager, John Weaver, said, "There's a simple reason our party is nowhere near being a national governing party."  “No one wants to be around a bunch of cranks.” He was referring to conservative Republican candidates. Starting off bashing fellow Republicans. Weaver by the way is a former McCain "strategist". Looser. Weaver has mocked Pawlenty and Romney. Not by policy statements, but personally. Looser. About Pawlenty he said, "Tim's a nice guy, and there's nothing worse than seeing a nice guy pretend that he's angry. Is that really what we want to be? Is that how we're going to define ourselves? When's the last time an angry man ever solved a problem without using a gun?" Really?

He's said nothing nearly as harsh as this about his friend Obama. Weaaver again: "The frustrating thing is that Obama's beatable."  "But to beat Obama you have to be bigger than Obama. That's how we save our party." Being a RINO, McCain II, is going to beat Obama? What's are they going to save the Party from? Conservatives? Huntsman was booed at a TEA Party event in Utah. That speaks volumes about this guy too.

Huntsman wrote to Obama in an Aug. 16, 2009 note: “You are a remarkable leader,” (underlining the word “remarkable,”) “and it has been a great honor getting to know you.”

Huntsman supported Obama's "stimulus" packages. He supported the "DREAM act", the "comprehensive" Democrat program to make illegal aliens (undocumented Democrats) legal. He's was for SCHIP which was supposed to be healthcare for kids but turned out to be a massive healthcare bill for adults too (a Dem program that McCain was for too). He supports the global warming crowed and the legislation that grows from that.

The danger here is his strategy going into the primaries is the same as McCain. By the time the primaries moved into "flyover country", RINO McCain was locked in. Many of those states have open voting, you don't have to belong to the party of the candidate to vote for him. Dems and other Statists crossed over and voted McCain, knowing he couldn't win. Huntsman must be stopped at the starting gate.

Sarah Palin Is Too Stupid To Be President!

...and this vid proves it!

Sunday, June 19, 2011

I was thinking about posting this Fathers' Day about the socio-economic impact of  fathers being relegated out of the family, being made out to be idiots and losers by popular culture. New statistics out show an alarming picture of the impact of this mindset on us all. I started to think about my own father though. He was, without a doubt, an amazing man.

Dad's Navigational "Computer"
He was a bombardier/navigator in WWII, Pacific theater. He told me once when we shared a couple war stories, that at Pearl Harbor, he ran to the armory to get a weapon and all that was left were pistols, and he felt pretty exposed and defenseless. I would say so. He told me too that he was amazed that the kind of war I fought in, jungle guerrilla warfare was something he would have had a tough time dealing with. I told him that what he did was crazy, being up in the air, and if he was shot down, where ya gonna go? I've just gone through my memorabilia box of his stuff. His "navigational computer", training flight log, pics of his buddies there in Hawaii, flight engineer log book, completion of training certificates for Aircraft Mechanic in 1941 at Hickam Field Hawaiian Technical School, Air Mechanic Trouble Shooter for the B-29 in Amarillo Army Air Field in Texas.There's his orders assigning him to the 39th Bombardment Squadron 6th Bombardment Group.

Then there's his Air Medal:
"For meritorious achievement while participating in aerial flights as combat crew members in successful combat missions against the Japanese Empire. All missions were flown under rapidly changing and often-times adverse weather conditions. The flights were subjected to enemy anti-aircraft fire and fighter opposition. There were constantly present difficult navigational problems, danger of engine failure and consequent ditching many miles at sea. Under prolonged periods of physical and mental strain, and undaunted by the many hazards faced regularly and continuously, each crew member displayed such courage and skill in the performance of his duty as to reflect great credit on himself and the Army Air Forces."

In Dad's High School Year Book, North High,  Syracuse NY, 1940, the comment beside his picture:
"'Joe' joined this world on May 28, 1921. He is one of those silent few who can get results without asking too many questions. We have some inside dope that tells us he wants to be an aviator." The class motto by the way was, "Our lives are what our thoughts make them."

His aviation class book pictures him, the dashing, handsome aviator in cravat. One of my aunts said he cut quite the figure in those days.

Dad was a man who could do anything. He took apart aircraft engines, car engines, did plumbing and electrical wiring, put in the lawn sprinklers, did landscaping, and carpentry. He made his living as an aeronautical engineer for Lockheed from the end of the war until his retirement. He used to joke, 'I can't even spell aeronautical engineer, and now I are one', and laugh. He was a calm man of great humility.

I saw him cry after the divorce, which was unnerving for a ten year old. This man's man, aviator, the man who could do everything, cried? He was an emotional and caring man.

He raised us right. He has two accomplished sons. I spent more time with him than my brother because I lived with him and my stepmother about half my high school years. We all know how screwed up teenagers are, and I know I gave him more than enough grief. It was clear he understood though, and at the same time forced me to get off my duff, get some direction in my life, and produce. Most grownups and others I knew told me what I couldn't do, what I couldn't accomplish. He told me what I could accomplish, and made decisions that forced me out of my shell. I didn't like it, and got angry, but he was right. He helped me get started in college, supported my military service, and even until his death in the late eighties I relied on him for insight and guidance. Some say they have no regrets in life. I have a few, one of them being that in my twenties and thirties I was more motivated by sex, drugs and rock 'n roll than spending time with him and appreciating him.

Here's to my father, and to all fathers that raised good kids, lived a good life, and did the right thing.

Anti-Christian Hate Speech From NY Appellate Court

Our anti-Christian judicial system is still doing its best to kill Christianity. Our secularist legislators and pro-Muslim executive are having a hard time changing this nation into an anti –Christian nation, so the judges are doing their best to help.

The New York appellate court has ruled, in defiance of previous Supreme Court rulings, that religious groups can’t use school facilities after school hours. Of course any other group can. Jews can for the time being, but with this ruling, that too is on the chopping block. This sad sack excuse for blatant discrimination under the “rule of law” is justified by the court by saying they weren’t discriminating against religion, they were simply banning a “type of activity—religious worship services.”

Federal courts had issued an injunction against enforcing the ban on religious groups meeting on taxpayer funded public property, but the appellate court rejected the ruling of the higher court (really?). That ban is nine years old. What’s the holdup?

The court is a panel of three judges. The one dissenting judge, John Walker: “The majority’s formulation of ‘religious worship services,’ including its shoehorning of a supposed Establishment Clause problem, is conveniently tailored to support its arguments, but leaves no doubt that it is ‘religious services’ and ‘worship’ that the Board is targeting for exclusion.”

The ruling is being appealed to the 2nd Circuit Court. Let’s hope they at least, if not anti-religious secular bigots, believe in the rule of law. If not it’ll be up to the Supreme Court again.

We Don't Need to Speak No Stinkin' English

Texas State Senator Chris Harris

This is from a hearing of the Texas Senate Transportation and Homeland Security Committee.  The anti- American Mexican testifying is Antolin Aguirre of the Austin Immigrant Rights Coalition, and has been the the US over twenty years and refuses to speak English to representatives of the citizens of the United States.

This Senate Bill would allow local officials to check the immigration status of suspects. Really? We need yet more testimony to confirm the law needs to be enforced? Then this guy that’s been here for over two decades refuses to speak English? The reason is he rejects the values and principles of the United States, and is here only to take what he and his fellow travelers can for themselves and send back what they cant to their failed home country. Anywhere else in the world one learns the language of the country they’re working in if they’re staying there that long.

We have lawyers, officers of the judicial system, sworn to uphold the law, refusing to prosecute violators of law. One that comes to mind is Gloria Allred when she defended the housekeeper, I think the one that worked for Carly Fiorina, when it turned out she was an illegal immigrant. The illegal immigrant had phony documents, yet her employer (a Republican female, the most hated creature by the Left) took all kinds of heat for hiring an illegal. Allred and others like her should be disbarred for violating their oath of office.

In any case Texas State Senator Chris Harris was absolutely correct asking his question on why this guy, advocating that the US not enforce the law, wasn’t speaking English. I know, I know, I’m a racist because I advocate for the rule of law, and am against not enforcing the law with some people because of race. Good grief.

Cedar Falls Gives New Meaning to Key to the City

Cedar Falls City Council Meeting
Here’s a little taste of Leftist’s end game is. They’d love it if they could do this kind of thing on the national level. The city council of Cedar Falls, Iowa has passed an ordinance demanding citizens owning businesses and multi-family dwellings give keys to their establishments to the city. Yea, and all those city employees are sooooo upstanding, honest citizens; not to mention this being a violation of constitutional property rights.

This is the citizens speaking up at the Council Meeting. They understand liberty and the Constitution. City Officials only understand power and ego.

The Obama "Recovery"

This is where we are with the Obama Regime a little half over. A note here that the blame Bush for economic woes, besides not showing leadership, is vacuous since Obama voted for all the economic legislation that contributed to this mess. We also note Conservatives were against TARP and other economic “stimulus” legislation Bush supported.

*Unemployment is at 9.1%, higher than when he took office.

*Boeing got a plant up and running in South Carolina, and now Obama’ National Labor Relations Board is suing on the behalf of union thugs to have the whole thing shut down because they didn’t stay in the pro union Socialist State of Washington. Not only does this administration sue sovereign states (Arizona for enforcing national immigration law)
but is now suing private companies for not opening businesses where they want.

*The first “stimulus” package he and his Socialist Dems signed into office was supposed to keep unemployment below 8%. From January 2009 unemployment has risen from 7.8%

*National Debt has risen from $10.4 trillion to $14.3 trillion. That’s $46,000 for every man, woman and child in America.

*Unfunded liabilities have taken us to somewhere between $60 trillion and $100 trillion in total debt, worse than economically collapsed Greece.

*Hoping lying over and over will stick, Democrat Party Chair Wasserman-Schultz keeps repeating along with Obama that the economy is recovering, jobs are being added, but the lie is not sticking; 58% of citizens don’t believe it.

*Job market down. Manufacturing down. Home sales down. Home foreclosures up. Construction down. Investment down. Consumer confidence down.

Great summation of where we're at.

Sheila Jackson Lee asks about ‘Christian militants’ during anti-Muslim hearing | Raw Replay

I had written a couple times earlier about the notion of "Christian Terrorists" here here and here , how Leftists, Secularists and anti-Christian bigots like Sheila Jackson Lee draws moral equivalency between groups they despise and other bad actors. This is shameless, but then again Lee is one of the most stupid people in public office, a liar, anti-Christian bigot and racist.
Vid of her inane and stupid utterances on the issue:
Sheila Jackson Lee asks about ‘Christian militants’ during anti-Muslim hearing | Raw Replay

“Are you familiar with the Christian militants?” she asked former New York Dept. of Correctional Services official Patrick Dunleavy. “Can one might say that they might possibly want to undermine this country because right now the right for women to choose is a Constitutional right but people disagree with it but here is an individual trying to undermine the protections that are given to women? Would you suggest that might be compared to trying to undermine this country? That’s a possibility, is it not?”

Love how these self important narcissists, in hearing after hearing, ask a question, and then drone on without letting a complete answer being provided. I used to be an avid CSPAN watcher, but it fell away mostly for that reason.

Thoughts on Pentecostal Sunday

Today is Pentecost, the birthday of the Church. Pentecost is the Jewish Feast of Weeks, and comes fifty days after Passover. Since Christianity was formed out of the Jewish faith, those traditional religious observances were incorporated into the new Christian faith; Passover became Easter, the Feast of Weeks became Pentecost. The event of Pentecost came seven weeks after Christ was crucified and resurrected.

Here’s what happened that day:
“When the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. Then there appeared to them divided tongues, as of fire, and one sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.”
“And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in different tongues, as the Spirit enabled them to proclaim. Now there were devout Jews from every nation under heaven staying in Jerusalem. At this sound, they gathered in a large crowd, but they were confused because each one heard them speaking in his own language. They were astounded, and in amazement they asked, “Are not all these people who are speaking Galileans? Then how does each of us hear them in his native language? We are Parthians, Medes, and Elamites, inhabitants of Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia, Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the districts of Libya near Cyrene, as well as travelers from Rome, both Jews and converts to Judaism, Cretans and Arabs, yet we hear them speaking in our own tongues of the mighty acts of God.”
This reverses the Tower of Babel, when people built the tower up to be closer to God, when what they were doing was putting themselves before God. God changed their tongues, and when they spoke they couldn’t understand each other.

Now with Pentecost, God changed our tongues again, and we can speak with one voice. On this day there was a wind, the Spirit of God, from the word “ruach” for breath, spirit, wind. The spirit of God was breathed into these people, bringing them back to a spirit filled life. Tongues of fire appear, and this purifies, burns away their sins. They become baptized by the Spirit.

There were about 120 people this started with, and it grew because they began witnessing through the Spirit, making the “Great Commission” possible: “Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, until the end of the age.”

We’re reminded this day that we speak with one voice; we are to witness and disciple. I’m praying this day that all the divisions of our Faith move closer to one voice. I’m partially thinking here of  Pentecostals, that speak in “tongues”, and how mainstream and non-denominational churches think them a bit odd and out of touch, and are dismissive of them. The Holy Spirit was breathed into all of us.

We all have problems, have our wounds, have our talents and gifts. We all should communicate with God’s Spirit that He gave us. We are the One Holy Church, the Body of Christ. We should witness to that, whether we do it speaking in tongues, singing, writing, or just talking about our faith journey. We all need Love, we all need the Spirit. We have been given it, we need to witness it.

Pastor Jack Hayford, in his book Living the Spirit-Formed Life envisions Christians overcoming our divisions, and unifying with full spirituality:
“…where Jesus Christ is exalted and is central in all, where God’s Word is honored and authoritative in all, where the Holy Spirit is welcome and free to work in every way and where spiritual dynamics and spiritual disciplines are joined by all.”

We are surrounded by a great cloud of witnesses, looking on, encouraging us to do the will of the Lord. Let us stand worthy, and be faithful to God’s  call….We must not grow weary…!

Say What? Dali Lama is a Marxist

This one gets an oooops and an ummmmm. The Dali Lama attended a conference in Minneapolis a few days ago, and said   “as far as socio-political beliefs are concerned, I consider myself a Marxist.” Then he added, “But not a Leninist.”

Someone asked him to reconcile the contradiction between what should be their views of religion. Here’s the astonishing response: "Marx was not against religion or religious philosophy per se but against religious institutions that were allied, during Marx’s time, with the European ruling class. He also provided an interesting anecdote about his experience with Mao. He said that Mao had felt that the Dalai Lama’s mind was very logical, implying that Buddhist education and training help sharpens the mind. He said he met with Mao several times, and that once, during a meeting in Beijing, the Chinese leader called him in and announced: “Your mind is scientific!”—an assessment that was followed by the famous line,”religion is poison.”

Communists led by Mao destroyed his country, slaughtered his people, crushed the practice of Buddhism, and he’s okay with it apparently.

Here, by the way is what Marx said about religion: Religion is the sigh of the oppressed creature, the heart of a heartless world, and the soul of soulless conditions. It is the opium of the people.

Looks like the Dali Lama is yet another useful idiot.

Dems Hate Disabled Children

Really Liberals? Going to events to acknowledge disadvantaged people, especially little kids? Shame. But Liberals have no idea what that is.

Liberals do this kind of thing all the time. They destroy property, disrupt meetings of regular citizens, intimidate, start fights, and go to the homes of people they disagree with and threaten their families. This week they protested Governor Walker at a retirement home and the ER of a children's hospital in addition to this Special Olympics event. Really?

"I Know Who Holds Tomorrow"~~Alison Krauss & The Cox Family

"Abide With Me" ~~Henry Francis Lyte

This is a funeral hymn primarily, but for some reason this morning my heart aches for those that are suffering loss, whether from natural disasters in the Midwest and South, suffering hardship or personal loss, or knowing someone is dying. This hymn reminds us that life is a “little day” and changes and things that happen to us pass all too quickly; we need to have God abide in us always.

Abide with me; fast falls the eventide;
the darkness deepens; Lord, with me abide.
When other helpers fail and comforts flee,
Help of the helpless, O abide with me.

Swift to its close ebbs out life's little day;
earth's joys grow dim; its glories pass away;
change and decay in all around I see;
O thou who changest not, abide with me.

I need thy presence every passing hour.
What but thy grace can foil the tempter's power?
Who, like thyself, my guide and stay can be?
Through cloud and sunshine, Lord, abide with me.

I fear no foe, with thee at hand to bless;
ills have no weight, and tears not bitterness.
Where is death's sting? Where, grave, thy victory?
I triumph still, if thou abide with me.

Hold thou thy cross before my closing eyes;
shine through the gloom and point me to the skies.
Heaven's morning breaks, and earth's vain shadows flee;
in life, in death, O Lord, abide with me.

I need Thy presence every passing hour.
What but Thy grace can foil the tempter's power?
Who, like Thyself, my guide and stay can be?
Through cloud and sunshine, Lord, abide with me.

I fear no foe, with Thee at hand to bless;
Ills have no weight, and tears no bitterness.
Where is death's sting? Where, grave, thy victory?
I triumph still, if Thou abide with me.

Hold Thou Thy cross before my closing eyes;
Shine through the gloom and point me to the skies.
Heaven's morning breaks, and earth's vain shadows flee;
In life, in death, O Lord, abide with me.

Before and After Debt Meeting Between Obama and Republicans

It's All About the People

It's people and civic pride that produced this.

"The Grand Rapids LipDub Video was filmed May 22nd, with 5,000 people, and involved a major shutdown of downtown Grand Rapids, which was filled with marching bands, parades, weddings, motorcades, bridges on fire, and helicopter take offs. It is the largest and longest LipDub video, to date.

This video was created as an official response to the Newsweek article calling Grand Rapids a "dying city." We disagreed strongly, and wanted to create a video that encompasses the passion and energy we all feel is growing exponentially, in this great city. We felt Don McLean's "American Pie," a song about death, was in the end, triumphant and filled to the brim with life and hope." - Rob Bliss, Director & Executive Producer
