May each of you have the heart to conceive, the understanding to direct, and the hand to execute works that will leave the world a little better for your having been here. -- Ronald Reagan

God is Never Distant

I sometimes hear people say they feel God is distant. I haven't, I'm pleased to say, experienced that since I returned to Him. Truth is we shut Him out, we distance ourselves. We need to stay mindful of him all the time, because he's good to us all the time, with us all time, and loves us all the time.

From an unknown source, an unknown monk:

Speaking to the Master, the Monk said, “So what does one do about the distance?”

“Understand that it isn’t there.” Said the Master.

“Does that mean that God and I are one?” Asked the puzzled Monk.
“Not one. Not two.” Said Father Abbot.

“How is that possible?” Replied the disciple.

And looking at him, the master replied:
“The sun and its light,
the ocean and the wave,
the singer and his song -
–not one….Not two.”

Sicut Cervus - Like the Deer that Yearns
Sicut cervus desiderat ad fontes aquarum, ita desiderat anima mea ad te Deus.
As a deer longs for springs of water, so my soul longs for you, O God.
