Now They Want to Control What Kind of Knives We Have

The Customs and Border Protection (CBP), through the upcoming Homeland Security appropriations bill is attempting to redefine what a switchblade is. The original definition is 50 years old. The legislation allegedly only affects imported knives.

The Switchblade Knife Act of 1958, defined a "switchblade" as any knife having a blade that opens automatically by hand pressure applied to a button or other device in the handle, or by operation of inertia or gravity.

The new definition would include any spring-assisted or one-handed-opening knife. Which is just about any pocket knife really. Do you have a pocket knife? Is your son a boy scout? Legislative analysts say the legislation is too broad and not specific enough, so that it could be used retroactively, making anyone with a folding pocket knife a federal criminal.

Who knew folding pocket knives were a national security threat? The reason for the modified legislation is to clarify definitions for border patrol and customs agents.

That's the way to take care of national security. Go after pocket knives and have open borders.

Plus, aren't appropriations bills budget requests? Shouldn't changes to laws be separate?

Yet another example of the Statist Obama administration trying to control every every every detail of our lives... finances, what cars we drive, our medical decisions, what kind and how much energy we use, how much of our income we keep, and now, what kind of knife we have. Statists must control even the smallest details of our lives so there's no wiggle room. The more you do that violates the law, the more power and control they have.

America used to be about liberty and choices. We are quickly headed in a direction of having only one choice left...the choice to abort our babies.
