In Memory of Tiananmen Square

Twenty years ago today Tiananmen Square happened. Millions of Chinese revolted against dictatorship, demanding Democracy. No one knows how many were murdered by their own government that day. How many thousands put in prisons to be tortured and murdered. Even family members of the protesters were rounded up.

I remember that day, sitting much of the afternoon watching CNN, and saddened by this.

China is still an oppressive militaristic dictatorship, though things are a bit better now, than when this happened. I hope the Chinese people keep pushing for their freedom to do and be what they want. The government doesn't want it, except for the part that enriches and empowers them.

The Beijing Olympics slogan, "One World, One Dream", according to reporter Claudia Rosett, was on a huge billboard in Tiananmen Square during the Olympics. It was surrounded by tanks, guns, soldiers, surveillance cameras, fencing and checkpoints. Not the dream I envision for China or America, or the rest of the world.
