May each of you have the heart to conceive, the understanding to direct, and the hand to execute works that will leave the world a little better for your having been here. -- Ronald Reagan

Autumn

Waking up this morning I felt the first chill of an autumn morning this year. It  comes late in the desert, especially this year. Feeling this, I was reminded of one of my favorite songs, "Autumn Leaves". The lyrics were written by poet Jacques Prévert and the music by Joseph Kosma and introduced introduced as "Les feuilles mortes" (“The Dead Leaves”) in 1946 in the film “Les Portes de la Nuit”. Johnny Mercer wrote the English lyrics in 1947, and since performed by so many. These two performances recognized as arguably the best arrangements.
Nat King Cole

Cannonball Adderly and Miles Davis
