Herkelman, winner by default |
Of course the “civil” Leftists in the country all got together and abusively ganged up on 15 year old high school wrestler, Joel Northrup, for forfeiting a match at the state championships, because his upcoming opponent was a girl, Cassy Herkelman. I’ve got to ask, what’s a girl doing wrestling boys?
Herkelman's record was 20-13 Northrup was 35-4.
Much of the kerfuffle I’m sure was because the boy was making a moral decision based on religious thought and teaching. That grappling with a girl was insulting to the girl and shouldn’t be done.
Joel’s take:
“There’s no specific scripture or verse in the Bible that condemns wrestling girls.” “It’s more of a Biblical principle of treating the opposite gender with respect… I don’t think wrestling should be a coed sport because of all the compromising holds and everything.”
Wrestling gets “violent at times...I just don't feel it's right that a boy should engage a girl like this.”
Here’s a knucklehead from the Jurassic Press, sports writer Rick Reilly:
“Body slams and takedowns and gouges in the eye and elbows in the ribs are exactly how to respect Cassy Herkelman. This is what she lives for...She relishes the violence.”
"Does any wrong-headed decision suddenly become right when defended with religious conviction? In this age, don’t we know better? If my God told me to poke the elderly with sharp sticks, would that make it morally acceptable to others? And where does it say in the Bible not to wrestle against girls?"
...Bible not to wrestle against girls? Really? How can such stupidity be measured? Plus, this guy can't be much or a sports writer either, even though he works for ESPN. Guess we could say he's an alleged sports writer. In wrestling there aren't gouges and elbows to the ribs. That's WWF stuff. What's in high school and college is scholastic and collegiate wresting, based on Greco-Roman wrestling.
Even more disturbing is the girl’s father: "She's my son...She's always been my son.”
Ummmmmm… What kind of man is this to raise his daughter to grapple with boys?
We have a boy standing on tradition that is abused by the anti-traditional zeitgeist, and a girl and her family…well, I don’t know what they’re thinking. I don’t think anything good can come of it.
Color me old fashioned, but I think women should be respected, held, loved, cherished, hugged and kissed. Not slammed into a sweat (and sometime blood) covered rubber mat.
